Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association

The Portland Marathon will take place on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024. The static map shows the race route in and around your neighborhood. Continue to scroll down to see an interactive map of the entire route. As a rule of thumb it will not be possible to drive on, or drive across, the streets used for the race until the last runner has passed the location and the traffic control devices have been removed. Vehicles will be turned away one block prior to reaching the race route.

Route Description In Your Neighborhood

Only full marathon runners will travel through Eastmoreland; half marathon runners will not enter the neighborhood. The route enters Eastmoreland from Sellwood-Moreland by coming across the SE Bybee Blvd Overpass. Runners then turn right to travel south down SE 27th Ave and continue east on SE Crystal Springs Blvd. They then head north on SE 36th Ave, west on Lambert St, and then north on Reed College Pl. The route heads north on Reed College Pl using the east side of the road and will then turn right onto SE Woodstock Blvd before turning left to enter the campus of Reed College.

The route does a counter-clockwise loop around the campus and returns to Reed College Pl via SE 28th Ave and SE Woodstock Blvd. Runners will then run south down Reed College Pl using the west side of the road. They turn right onto SE Lambert St and then right again onto SE 28th Ave. They will continue north on SE 28th Ave until connecting onto SE Bybee Blvd. The route then exits the neighborhood by returning to Sellwood-Moreland via the Bybee overpass.

Special Traffic Considerations In Your Neighborhood

It will not be possible to drive on or across SE Bybee Blvd, SE 27th Ave, SE Crystal Springs Blvd, SE 36th Ave, Reed College Pl, SE Woodstock Blvd, SE Lambert St, or SE 28th Ave on the portions of those roads used by the race (please refer to the map) beginning at 8:20 a.m. and lasting as late as 12:30 p.m.

During the impacted hours of the race it will not be possible to use the overpass on SE Bybee Blvd to cross over 99E back and forth between Sellwood-Moreland and Eastmoreland. Law enforcement personnel will stop all vehicles attempting to travel west on SE Bybee Blvd and only those needing to access the Eastmoreland Golf Course Clubhouse will be allowed to continue west past SE Tolman St.

Residents living east of Reed College Pl: With the exception noted below, all Eastmoreland residents who live east of Reed College Pl will not experience much impact other than the restriction of westbound travel across Reed College Pl. Residents of the east side of Eastmoreland needing to travel west are encouraged to avoid doing so anywhere between SE Crystal Springs Blvd and SE Woodstock Blvd. As an alternate, please consider using SE 45th Ave to travel south to Johnson Creek Blvd and SE Tacoma St.

The exception to the paragraph above is for residents living on SE 34th, SE35th, and SE 36th Ave between Crystal Springs Blvd and SE Lambert St. These residents should plan to park their vehicles on a nearby street anywhere east of (but not on) SE 35th Ave before and during the hours of impact if they need to exit or re enter the neighborhood.

Residents living west of Reed College Pl: Eastmoreland residents who live west of Reed College Pl should use SE 28th Ave to enter and exit the neighborhood. Runners will occupy the east side of the road (northbound lane) on SE 28th Ave between Woodstock Blvd and Botsford Dr, but the west side of the road (southbound lane) will remain open for vehicle traffic. Traffic control personnel will allow alternating traffic to flow both north and south using the southbound lane during the impacted hours.

When leaving the neighborhood traveling north on SE 28th Ave, traffic control personnel may momentarily stop vehicles at the intersection of SE 28th Ave and Woodstock Blvd. Vehicles will then be allowed to continue north on SE 28th Ave and exit the neighborhood. Please plan for extra travel time when exiting the neighborhood.

When re entering the neighborhood, residents should do so by coming south down SE 28th Ave. Just prior to entering the area they will be stopped by traffic control personnel and asked to confirm that they are residents or guests of residents in Eastmoreland. They will then be allowed to continue south down SE 28th Ave to access the neighborhood. Please plan for extra travel time when entering the neighborhood.

Residents living on Reed College Pl: Eastmoreland Residents who live on Reed College Pl will not be able to drive on Reed College Pl, including pulling into/out of their driveways. They should instead plan to park their vehicles on a nearby street east or west of Reed College Pl and follow the directions given above according to which side of Reed College Pl they park on.

"No Parking" Streets & Driveway Access Along Route

The interactive map below shows the entire race route. Zoom in to see the exact streets that will be used for the race. All streets that are used for the actual race will be posted "No Parking" from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1. If your home or business is located on the actual race route, please note that any vehicles parked on the street during the indicated hours will be courtesy towed. Towed vehicles will be taken to the closest possible street that is not posted as No Parking.

"No Parking" enforcement will also be in effect in instances where one-way streets run into the street used for the actual race. If your home or business is located on a one-way street that intersects the race route, you will not be able to park your vehicle within one block of the race route from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. If your car is towed, please call 503-823-0044.

Because it will not be permissible to drive on the streets used for the race while runners are present, residents and businesses whose driveways access the race route will not be able to pull their vehicles into/out of their driveways during the closures; they should instead plan to park their vehicles on a nearby street that is not located on the race route. In your neighborhood, the streets that will be used for the race and will therefore be posted "No Parking" and inaccessible to resident and business driveways are:

  • SE 27th Ave between SE Bybee Blvd and SE Crystal Springs Blvd
  • SE Crystal Springs Blvd between SE 27th Ave and SE Reed College Pl
  • SE 36th Ave between SE Crystal Springs Blvd and SE Lambert St
  • SE Lambert St between SE 36th Ave and SE Reed College Pl
  • SE Reed College Pl between SE Crystal Springs Blvd and SE Woodstock Blvd
  • SE Woodstock Blvd between SE 28th Ave and SE 36th Ave
  • SE Lambert St between SE 27th Ave and SE Reed College Pl
  • SE 28th Ave between SE Crystal Springs Blvd and SE Tolman St

Vehicles approaching these streets will be stopped and turned around one block prior to reaching the street until the course has been cleared of runners and re-opened.

Neighborhood Cheer Challenge

Does your neighborhood association want to get involved with the marathon and make some money? All neighborhood associations (including those that are not on the actual race route) are invited to participate in the Neighborhood Cheer Challenge. Here's how it works: If your association decides to participate, you will be assigned a spot on the race course to take over and demonstrate your neighborhood's personality. You are encouraged to bring signs, play music, decorate, and most importantly CHEER on the runners and help them have an unforgettable experience.

After the race, runners will vote on their favorite groups and the top five neighborhood associations will win $500 each, with the first place group taking home the grand prize of $1,000. There is no limit or requirement on the number of people who need to participate, and there is no fee to participate. To sign up your neighborhood, email us at info@portlandmarathon.com.
