Speed Gains and Strategic Splits Lead to Strong Finish Yan Chen exhibited notable progress in the 2025 Portland Marathon half marathon, significantly improving on a previous performance. Clocking a final time of 1:30:34, standout improvements are evident. Especially noteworthy were the 6:22 and 6:39 splits during miles five and eight. His overall place finished at 147th out of 5,623 participants. The consistent early pacing at sub-7:00 min/mile showed strategic racing, however, the 7:45 pace at mile seven suggests a focus area. Despite this, a strong 6:37 mile at the end highlighted resilience and speed reserves. Compared to the 2021 Portland Marathon, where Yan achieved a pace of 7:30 min/mile, the current performance shows significant improvement at 6:54 min/mile pace. Yan's increased pace, consistent placement improvement, and strategic race adjustments put him in an excellent position in his M35-39 division, finishing 19th.
